Home Addition

This project in South Etobicoke was one our team was eager to tackle. The clients had an old bungalow and needed a completely new home, so we got to work exploring options. After thorough discussions, we decided to design a project that would give the appearance of a new build, but in reality, it would be a full gut renovation with an addition and underpinning. Essentially, we kept only one wall standing and rebuilt everything else from the ground up. The new home required full-height ceilings on both the main and second floors, with a blend of modern and traditional finishes.

Rather than demolishing the entire structure and foundation to build a new home, our approach started with carefully securing parts of the existing wall and meticulously taking apart and excavating certain areas. With a large tree at the front and tight space to work in, much of the project was done by hand, though we did use an excavator for some parts. The early stages were challenging, as we had to regularly pump out rainwater and clean up the accumulated mess. We worked closely with city inspectors and ensured the clients were satisfied with every step along the way.

The final result was a stunning transformation. You would never know any part of the old house remained. The property was registered as a new construction and quickly became a standout in the neighbourhood, with a sleek exterior and a mix of modern and traditional elements inside. Once the house was completed, our team also handled all the landscaping, including a new rear deck, fence, and stamped concrete around the front and back of the house. We’re proud of the solution we found and thrilled that the clients were pleased with the outcome.
