Design and Build New Home

ALBO Renovations was approached by a couple from North York with an idea to build a new house. They had land with an older home on it and shared their thoughts about what they wished to do. After a few meetings, we were designing a future forever home for them and their kids to live in. The concept idea was to mix traditional and modern styles that suit other new home constructions in the North York area, but with several twists that would be specific to our project. The clients wanted a luxurious look with golden fixtures in the kitchen and bathrooms, but at the same time fluted accents on the main floor with LED lighting in specific areas.

Issues started coming up at the beginning of the project. As soon as we demolished and dug out the existing foundation with footings, our crew discovered soft dirt underneath. A geotechnical engineer was brought on site for consultation and confirmation of the soil. We had to excavate all the soft soil and pour back approximately 30 tonnes of concrete in place to continue with construction. A larger house always means more decisions to be made for design and floor space. We did go back and forth on material decisions in some areas, and it may have delayed our ability to finish as fast as we wanted to. There is a large tree at the front and several trees at the back that required protection, and it is always tougher working around things.

Overall, it was a smooth ride with a few obstacles on the way — the kind our team tackles on an everyday basis. In the end, we decided to go with Styroke as the exterior finish material. The custom kitchen and main floor design needed most of our attention, with smooth transitioning from one style to another. A luxury home such as this one needs extreme attention to detail, which our team was able to deliver, pleasing the clients with the overall performance.
